Pune Metro Traffic Restrictions Disrupt Chandni Chowk Route

Pune Metro traffic restrictions will affect heavy vehicles, passenger buses and goods carriers travelling from Chandni Chowk towards Kothrud Depot as construction work advances on the Vanaz–Chandni Chowk extension. Pune Traffic Police have directed affected vehicles to use a longer diversion through Dukkar Khind, Warje, Karvenagar, Karve Road and Paud Phata Chowk.

The restriction covers the Chandni Chowk–Kothrud Depot stretch and applies to dumpers, concrete mixers, goods-carrying vehicles, state transport buses and private passenger buses. The traffic police advisory is intended to support metro construction and prevent congestion and safety risks along the affected road.

Construction teams are installing metal barricades along both sides of the road divider between Vanaz Metro station and Chandni Chowk. The barricading will reduce the available road space and alter vehicle movement on a route already used by commuters travelling between western Pune neighbourhoods and the Kothrud area.

A separate height barrier is also planned near Prathamesh Elite Society on the road leading from Chandni Chowk towards Kothrud Depot. According to the traffic advisory, the road has a steep downward slope, and the barrier is intended to stop heavy vehicles from entering the restricted stretch.

Under the diversion, vehicles travelling from Chandni Chowk towards Kothrud Depot must proceed via Dukkar Khind, Warje and Karvenagar before continuing along Karve Road to Paud Phata Chowk. The route is also intended for bus operators and goods vehicles that would otherwise use the direct connection to Kothrud Depot.

The restrictions place additional importance on route planning for public transport operators and commercial drivers. State transport and private passenger buses using the direct road will need to adjust their operations, while construction vehicles such as dumpers and concrete mixers have been asked to avoid the stretch altogether.

The Vanaz–Chandni Chowk extension is part of the ongoing expansion of Pune Metro infrastructure in the western part of the city. As work moves closer to active roads, the traffic arrangement shows how construction staging is being managed through vehicle restrictions, barricading and a physical height-control measure.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakre has appealed to drivers to follow the diversion and avoid the restricted road. The traffic police have also advised motorists and bus operators to plan their journeys in advance and comply with instructions to minimise inconvenience and congestion.
