Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Cross 50,000 as Gujarat Hub Expands

Maruti Suzuki India has exported more than 50,000 indigenously manufactured electric vehicles since beginning global shipments in August 2025, with Europe emerging as the largest destination for the company’s EVs. The milestone highlights the growing role of India’s manufacturing capacity in the global electric-vehicle supply chain.

The company said on Thursday that it is expanding EV exports to about 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland. Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicles are being produced at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, which has become a central manufacturing and export hub for the automaker.

According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026. The company also held more than half of India’s overall passenger vehicle exports during the same period.

Maruti Suzuki currently exports 16 models to nearly 120 countries. The company said its cumulative vehicle exports reached a record 4.47 lakh units in financial year 2025-26, representing a 34% increase over the previous financial year. The export growth comes as the company expands both its international distribution network and its domestic manufacturing capacity.

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and chief executive officer of Maruti Suzuki India, recalled the commencement of production of the e VITARA at the Hansalpur facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described the automaker as a brand ambassador of the Make in India initiative during the production launch, according to the company.

The Hansalpur complex recently expanded its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles. Maruti Suzuki said the facility is the first Suzuki manufacturing plant globally to reach that capacity at a single location. The expansion involved cumulative investment of Rs 25,288.7 crore and has made Hansalpur a key base for the company’s overseas shipments.

The Gujarat facility accounted for nearly half of Maruti Suzuki’s overall overseas shipments in financial year 2025-26, the company said. Its scale gives the automaker additional capacity to serve export markets while manufacturing electric vehicles in India for international customers.

The export milestone comes as India seeks to deepen domestic vehicle manufacturing and increase the share of higher-value products shipped from the country. For cities and industrial regions, the expansion also links vehicle production with factory infrastructure, logistics networks and the movement of goods through export channels. The company did not provide a new target for EV exports in its announcement.

Maruti Suzuki’s immediate next steps are to continue shipments of its electric vehicles to international markets and operate the expanded Hansalpur production facility. Europe remains the company’s largest EV export destination, while shipments are also continuing to other markets identified by the automaker.
