DTC Bus Accident Kills 22-Year-Old Biker in Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh

A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after being struck by a Delhi Transport Corporation bus in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Wednesday morning, with police using CCTV footage to identify the bus and its driver.

The deceased was identified as Sonu, a resident of Indira Colony. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Vardhan Swami, Punjabi Bagh police received a PCR call about the road accident at around 7:23 am.

Investigating officers reached the location after receiving the alert and found that a DTC bus had collided with the motorcycle. Sonu suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was declared dead, the report said.

Police have not yet identified the bus involved in the accident. Investigators are examining CCTV cameras installed at the accident site and in nearby areas to establish the vehicle’s movement and determine the driver’s identity.

The crash occurred during the morning period when roads in west Delhi carry a mix of two-wheelers, buses, cars and pedestrians. The available police account does not state whether the bus was operating on a designated route, the direction in which either vehicle was travelling, or how the collision took place.

Sonu lived with his family in a slum settlement in Indira Colony, according to the report. His death adds to the safety risks faced by two-wheeler users on busy urban roads, where large public buses and smaller vehicles share constrained road space. The immediate investigation, however, remains focused on identifying the bus and establishing the circumstances of the collision.

Police said further legal action would be taken in accordance with the law after the vehicle and driver are traced and the evidence is examined. CCTV footage from the area is expected to form a central part of the investigation.
