Wormwood Synergy Hotels Plans Five New Properties by 2027

Wormwood Synergy Hotels plans to invest around Rs 80 crore in five additional properties across eastern India over the next two years, taking its total committed investment to approximately Rs 180 crore and expanding its portfolio from five to 10 active hotels by 2027.

The Kolkata-based hospitality company currently operates five hotels in Puri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Varanasi and Bhagalpur, with a combined inventory of 198 rooms. Its expansion strategy will combine greenfield developments with strategic acquisitions in tourism, leisure and business destinations.

West Bengal is a central part of the plan. Construction has started on the company’s upcoming property in Shantiniketan, a cultural tourism destination that has seen growing domestic visitor interest. The group is also preparing to open a hotel in Siliguri in December 2026, adding accommodation capacity in north Bengal for leisure travellers, transit passengers and business visitors.

Further projects are planned in Digha and the Sundarbans after the company completed property acquisitions at both locations. Together, the two developments are expected to add 65 rooms to the portfolio, including 30 rooms in Digha and 35 rooms in the Sundarbans.

The projects are aimed at destinations associated with short leisure breaks, coastal tourism and nature-based travel. Their progress will depend on the conversion of acquired properties and planned sites into operational hotels, although the company has not disclosed project-wise investment amounts or detailed construction schedules in the supplied announcement.

Wormwood Synergy Hotels is also evaluating a 70-room property in Mandarmani with a large banquet facility. The proposed development is intended to serve weekend travellers, family holidays, destination weddings, social events and corporate gatherings, combining accommodation with event infrastructure.

Soumya Sengupta, founder of Wormwood Synergy Hotels, said the company’s expansion strategy was focused on emerging tourism destinations across eastern India. He said the group saw opportunities to develop properties for leisure travellers, families and corporate guests, while aiming to contribute to local tourism, employment generation and economic development.

The planned hotel additions would increase the company’s presence in West Bengal beyond its existing projects in other eastern and northeastern markets. Alongside the West Bengal developments, Wormwood Synergy Hotels is exploring opportunities in Bhubaneswar and Guwahati.

The company’s stated target is to reach 10 active properties by 2027. The next disclosed milestones are the continuation of construction at Shantiniketan, the proposed December 2026 opening in Siliguri and the start of development work at the acquired Digha and Sundarbans properties.
