Gujarat has opened a fifth admission round for 294 vacant seats in government paramedical courses, with candidates allowed to submit their choices online until 10am on October 26. The vacancies remain after four rounds of counselling across government colleges in the state.
The available seats cover six courses: general nursing and midwifery (GNM), auxiliary nursing and midwifery (ANM), bachelor of physiotherapy (BPT), BSc Nursing, bachelor of orthotics and prosthetics (BOP), and bachelor in audiology and speech-language pathology (BASLP).
GNM has the highest number of vacant government seats at 107, followed by ANM with 85 and BPT with 65. BSc Nursing has 23 vacant seats, while BOP has 11 and BASLP has three. The figures cover a total of 2,469 sanctioned seats across the six courses in government colleges.
Of these sanctioned seats, 2,175 were filled during the first four counselling rounds, leaving 294 seats available for the latest round. The fourth round had recently been conducted to fill vacancies in government institutions before the admission authority announced the additional exercise.
The fifth round requires eligible candidates to fill their course and college choices online within the specified window. The announcement is intended to allocate seats that remained unfilled despite the earlier counselling rounds and to complete admissions in the government colleges offering these programmes.
The vacancy position is substantially larger in self-financed paramedical colleges. More than 35,000 seats remain vacant in those institutions, according to the report. The authority has delegated the process of filling these seats to the colleges, which can grant direct admissions to students until the end of October.
The two admission processes will therefore operate differently. Candidates seeking seats in government colleges must participate in the online choice-filling process before the October 26 deadline, while self-financed colleges have been permitted to conduct direct admissions through the end of the month. No further details on course-wise vacancies in self-financed colleges were provided in the report.
