Noida Sector 150 Air Pollution Protest Targets Heavy Trucks

Residents of 15 housing societies in Noida Sector 150 protested on Saturday against rising air pollution, road dust and the movement of heavy vehicles through residential roads, demanding separate routes for trucks and stricter enforcement of construction dust-control rules.

According to Navbharat Times – Noida, residents said trucks carrying construction material and soil were using internal roads in the sector, increasing dust and creating safety concerns for people living in the area. They said the situation was affecting nearly 20,000 residents, including children and elderly people.

The residents have asked the Noida Authority and traffic police to create a separate route for heavy vehicles, preferably through the Pushta Road, instead of allowing them to pass through residential streets. They also demanded the removal of a height barrier installed near ATS Pristine, alleging that the existing arrangement was diverting heavy vehicles towards internal roads.

The protest comes as multiple construction projects continue in Sector 150. Residents specifically raised concerns about dust from projects associated with ACE, County, Prestige and Godrej. They said the expected launch of 15 to 20 additional projects could increase the number of heavy vehicles and worsen dust pollution unless movement and construction-site operations are regulated in advance.

Residents also questioned the effectiveness of dust-control measures while GRAP-1 is in force. They demanded that construction sites comply strictly with pollution-control requirements and that trucks carrying construction materials keep their loads covered during transportation.

The demands also include regular mechanical sweeping of roads, action against speeding and unregistered trucks, and removal of encroachments by street vendors from road space. Residents said dust was accumulating because roads were not being cleaned regularly, adding to the problems created by construction traffic.

They have called for a joint inspection by the Noida Authority and traffic police, followed by a time-bound action plan. The proposed plan, according to the residents, should address heavy-vehicle routing, construction-site dust control, road cleaning and traffic enforcement before further projects begin in the sector.
