A dhaba owner was shot three times by three masked men while sleeping outside his outlet near a petrol pump on State Highway-88 in Samastipur district early Friday, according to a report by the Times of India. CCTV footage from the site captured the assault at Raipur Kishanpur under Sarairanjan police station limits.
The victim, identified as Abhinandan Kumar, was initially taken to a private clinic in Samastipur. He was later referred to Patna for advanced treatment because of his critical condition, the report said.
The CCTV footage reportedly shows Kumar sleeping outside the dhaba with a blanket covering his face when the three assailants approached him. One of them pulled away the blanket before the group began attacking him. The footage allegedly shows one attacker repeatedly punching Kumar while another struck him with an elbow.
The commotion woke two people who were sleeping nearby. When they attempted to intervene, the attackers allegedly assaulted them as well. One of the assailants then allegedly pointed a pistol at the two people, forcing them to flee from the spot.
A woman is also seen in the footage appearing to plead with the attackers to stop. She later retreated into a room while the assault continued, according to the report. The footage allegedly shows an assailant wearing a yellow T-shirt taking out a firearm and shooting Kumar three times in the back.
The incident occurred beside a state highway and near a petrol pump, placing the attack within a roadside commercial setting that remains active beyond conventional daytime business hours. The supplied report does not specify the suspected motive, whether any arrests have been made or whether police have formally identified the attackers.
Kumar’s referral to Patna indicates the seriousness of his injuries, while the CCTV footage is expected to form a key part of the account of the attack. Further details on the investigation and the condition of the victim were not available in the supplied report.
