Ahmedabad civic centres operated by the municipal corporation will now remain open throughout the week, including Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, allowing residents to access several essential services on holidays as well.
The seven zonal civic centres of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will operate from 9 am to 4.30 pm on these holidays, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. The decision is intended to help residents who are unable to visit municipal offices during regular working days because of employment or business commitments.
Services available at the zonal civic centres will include municipal tax-related work, issuing birth and death certificates, and hall bookings. The report states that other major civic services will also remain available to residents at the centres during the extended schedule.
Most offline government and municipal procedures are generally conducted on working days, requiring residents to take time away from work or other responsibilities. By opening the seven centres on Sundays and designated Saturdays, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is changing the physical access schedule for residents who continue to depend on in-person civic transactions.
The operating arrangement applies to the seven zonal civic centres across Ahmedabad. Their regular holiday-day hours will be from 9 am to 4.30 pm. The report does not specify whether all counters or services will operate at identical capacity on each holiday, but it identifies tax services, civil registration certificates and hall bookings among the facilities available.
The civic centres already handle substantial daily demand. According to information cited in the report, approximately 10,000 to 12,000 residents visit the centres each day for different municipal works. The weekend opening is therefore aimed at a large and recurring user base rather than an occasional administrative requirement.
The decision also places greater importance on how municipal services are organised at the zonal level. Residents can approach the civic centre associated with their municipal zone instead of relying only on weekday access to central or departmental offices. The arrangement is particularly relevant for people whose working hours overlap with standard public-office timings.
For residents planning to use the centres on Sundays or the second and fourth Saturdays, the announced service window is 9 am to 4.30 pm. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s seven zonal civic centres will continue providing the specified services under this schedule, with the new holiday access intended to make offline municipal transactions more convenient.
