GHMC Starts Land Acquisition for 100-Foot Shamshabad Roads

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has begun acquiring 23,496 square yards of land to develop two 100-foot road corridors in the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar areas, where rising construction, population and vehicle volumes have intensified traffic congestion.

The land acquisition process covers two routes that have been pending for a long period. Notifications have been issued for a corridor running from the Gollapalli National Highway-44 junction in Shamshabad mandal to Pedda Golkonda through the Outer Ring Road service road. The project is intended to provide a wider connection in an area experiencing increasing suburban traffic.

The second route is identified as Corridor No. 19 and falls within the Rajendranagar mandal limits. It will connect the ORR service road to Chevella Road through Bandlaguda Jagir and Kismatpur. The proposed road width for this corridor is also 100 feet.

According to the report, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is expediting the expansion works because the routes have remained pending while multi-storey buildings and surrounding development have expanded. The increase in population and vehicular density has added pressure to existing roads, leaving local residents facing severe congestion.

The projects are centred on acquiring the land required before the proposed road construction can be completed. The 23,496-square-yard requirement covers both routes, although the available information does not specify how the acquisition is divided between the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar corridors, the compensation arrangements or the expected completion dates.

Once constructed and opened to traffic, the roads are expected to create alternative routes for vehicles travelling from the ORR towards different parts of Hyderabad. The proposed links could therefore change how traffic moves between the ORR service road, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Bandlaguda Jagir, Kismatpur and Chevella Road.

The immediate milestone is the land acquisition process initiated by the GHMC and the notifications issued for the two corridors. Further details on acquisition progress, construction schedules and the delivery of the 100-foot roads have not been provided in the available report.
