Two workers died after a gas leak at a chemical plant in Telangana’s Sangareddy district during the early hours of Friday, with police investigating how the leak occurred and whether adequate safety measures were in place at the industrial unit.
The incident took place at around 3am in the Glaba block of a chemical plant owned by Saraka Industries in the Gaddapotharam industrial area of Jinnaram mandal. The workers were on the night shift when they were reportedly exposed to the leaked gas.
The deceased have been identified as Sudarshan Rao, 27, and Balaji, 44. Both were natives of Andhra Pradesh, according to the report. They reportedly died after inhaling the gas while on duty at the plant.
Police reached the facility after receiving information about the incident and inspected the scene. An investigation is under way to establish the circumstances that led to the gas leak and the deaths of the two workers.
The exact sequence of events has not yet been established. The investigation is also expected to examine whether the plant had adequate safety measures in place at the time of the incident, including the conditions under which the workers were carrying out their night-shift duties.
The type of gas involved has not been identified in the information available about the incident. Authorities are also yet to establish how the leak began, how long the workers were exposed, and the precise circumstances preceding their deaths.
The incident has brought renewed attention to worker safety at industrial units in the Gaddapotharam area, where chemical and other manufacturing facilities operate. However, the available report does not establish whether any safety protocol was breached or whether the plant had previously faced similar incidents.
Police are continuing to investigate the leak and the deaths. Further details are expected as authorities determine the cause of the incident and complete their examination of the plant site.
