A major leak in a Manjeera pipeline near Sadasivapet town in Sangareddy district has disrupted water supply to four mandals and the municipalities located within them, with Mission Bhagiratha officials saying services will remain suspended for at least two days while repairs are carried out.
The leak occurred along NH-65 on Friday, wasting a large quantity of water at a time when Singur was already facing a serious shortage. Local residents reported the problem, following which Mission Bhagiratha officials reached the site and stopped the leakage.
Repair work began after the flow was brought under control. Mission Bhagiratha Executive Engineer Vijayalakshmi said water supply would remain suspended in Kondapur, Sadasivapet, Patancheru and Sangareddy mandals during the repair period.
The suspension will also affect the municipalities located within these mandals. The affected areas include Sadasivapet and Sangareddy, although the source report does not specify the number of households or residents dependent on the pipeline or the volume of water lost through the leak.
The disruption comes as the region is dealing with pressure on available water supplies. The leak was reported near Sadasivapet town, while Singur was experiencing a serious water shortage, making the loss from the damaged pipeline particularly significant for the local water network.
Mission Bhagiratha officials have not announced a more detailed cause for the pipeline failure. The source report also does not state the age, diameter or carrying capacity of the affected pipeline, or whether the damage was linked to road works, ground movement, equipment failure or another factor.
According to Vijayalakshmi, the department will restore water supply immediately after the repair works are completed. Until then, residents and municipal areas in the four affected mandals will remain subject to the announced suspension.
