Padmaraonagar Road Crisis Deepens as 50% of Stretch Stays Unusable

Nearly half of the road behind Gandhi Hospital in Padmaraonagar, connecting Secunderabad with Musheerabad, remains damaged months after underground sewerage works, leaving commuters to navigate potholes and an unusable road surface, residents said.

The affected stretch runs along the hospital’s rear gate and towards Musheerabad crossroads. Residents said the road had not been properly restored after civic works, with the damaged surface creating particular difficulties for two-wheeler riders. They have sought permanent repairs, usable footpaths and regular maintenance along the route.

Sriharsha Tulasi, an IT employee and Secunderabad resident, said around 50 per cent of the road surface remained unusable after municipal works carried out a few months ago. He said the condition of the road was affecting daily commuting and creating safety risks for riders.

“Following municipal works carried out a few months ago, the road was not properly carpeted or restored, leaving approximately 50 per cent of the road surface unusable. This has made commuting difficult and poses safety risks, especially for two-wheeler riders,” Tulasi said.

He added that several roads in the locality required immediate attention, including Musheerabad Road towards Gandhi Hospital, the Padma Rao Nagar T-junction and the road behind the hospital. Residents have also complained about potholes and damaged road surfaces in other parts of the locality.

Another resident, Aravind Ramchander, said he had repeatedly raised complaints at Prajavani meetings and submitted photographs and videos showing the condition of the roads. He said he had also been added to a WhatsApp group with engineers, but alleged that coordination between the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board remained poor.

The complaints extend beyond the carriageway. Residents have reported dust, garbage dumping and inadequate pedestrian facilities in parts of Padma Rao Nagar. They have asked civic agencies to inspect the damaged stretches, restore roads after utility works and improve cleaning and dumping-control measures.

Resident Naresh Raghavan offered to contribute Rs 1 lakh from his personal funds towards road development. Residents said the locality, previously known for its well-maintained residential surroundings, needed improved civic infrastructure and closer cooperation between government agencies and the community.

When contacted, GHMC officials said the road works had been undertaken by HMWSSB. An HMWSSB official said the stretch had been dug up for underground sewerage repairs and acknowledged that complaints had been received about improper restoration. The official said the agency responsible for the work had been terminated.

An official source said GHMC had proposed laying a new road on the affected stretch. Residents have urged the civic body and other departments concerned to complete the restoration and address pedestrian and public-space problems alongside the road repairs.
