Fatal Hyderabad Crash Triggers Major Water Supply Disruption

A 24-year-old man died after a speeding Kia car rammed an air-release valve on the Krishna drinking water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in Hyderabad early Tuesday, causing a major water supply disruption across several parts of the city.

The crash occurred around 3 am near Metro Pillar Nos. 813 and 814 on the Uppal-Nagole route. The impact damaged the pipeline valve, sending water more than 30 feet into the air, reportedly above the metro track. Thousands of litres of water flowed onto the road for nearly four hours, flooding nearby areas and causing severe traffic congestion.

The deceased was identified as Vineeth, a 24-year-old resident of Hayathnagar. Police and fire services personnel reached the site after the crash, while officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board began emergency repairs to the damaged pipeline infrastructure.

The water board said the disruption affected multiple localities, including BN Reddy Nagar, Uppal, Vanasthalipuram, Ramanthapur, Beerappagadda, Autonagar, Prakash Nagar, Begumpet and Padmarao Nagar. Areas connected to the South Central Railway and Secunderabad networks were also listed among the affected locations.

The disruption extended to Cantonment, Lalaguda, Addagutta, Nallagutta, Mettuguda, Vaishalinagar, Meerpet, Badangpet, Balapur and Marredpally, among other areas. The extent of the impact varied according to the local water network and the progress of emergency repairs, based on the water board’s response reported by Deccan Chronicle.

The incident also created a major road and traffic problem on the Uppal-Nagole route. Water released from the damaged valve spread across nearby roads while emergency personnel and water board workers worked at the site. The report did not specify the speed of the vehicle, the condition of the driver or whether any additional people were injured in the crash.

HMWSSB officials said tankers would be deployed wherever necessary to supply water to affected communities. Residents in the impacted localities were urged to use water sparingly until normal supply was restored.

The immediate operational priority remained repairing the damaged valve and restoring the pipeline network. Further details on the police investigation into the crash and the final restoration schedule had not been provided in the report.
