Air India Express to Launch Double Daily Flights Between Kolkata and Port Blair Starting December 1

Air India Express is set to enhance its domestic connectivity with the introduction of double daily flights between Kolkata and Port Blair, commencing on December 1. This strategic move not only aims to cater to the growing demand for travel to the Andaman Islands but also underscores the airline’s commitment to expanding its network across India.

With the first flight from Port Blair departing at 8.35 AM and arriving in Kolkata at 10.45 AM, followed by a second service at 12.20 PM, the airline is keen to provide flexible options for both business and leisure travellers. Conversely, flights from Kolkata will take off at 5.40 AM and 9.20 AM, reaching Port Blair at 7.50 AM and 11.40 AM, respectively. Such timings are likely to attract a diverse passenger base, from early risers to those seeking a leisurely start to their day. This new route is particularly significant as Port Blair—now referred to as Sri Vijaya Puram—becomes Air India Express’s 47th destination. Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating, “We are delighted to announce the expansion of our domestic network this holiday season. Our aim is to provide a robust domestic product while promoting regional tourism.”

The focus on sustainability is also evident in this expansion. By increasing flight frequency to popular tourist destinations, Air India Express supports local economies and promotes the preservation of natural resources through responsible tourism. As domestic air travel continues to recover post-pandemic, airlines face the challenge of balancing increased demand with environmental considerations. With a commitment to a growing fleet and enhanced operational efficiency, Air India Express is striving to position itself as a leader in sustainable aviation. Moreover, the introduction of these flights is expected to positively impact the local economy, providing a much-needed boost to tourism in the Andaman Islands. This aligns with broader governmental initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in remote areas, thus enhancing the quality of life for local residents. Public sentiment towards this expansion is largely optimistic. Many residents and frequent travellers see it as a pivotal step in bridging gaps in connectivity, enhancing both economic opportunities and tourism potential. This expansion could not only facilitate easier access for tourists but also foster deeper cultural exchanges between regions.
