Vadodara Division Upgrades 18 Railway Stations for Better Travel

The Western Railway (WR) is embarking on a significant redevelopment initiative across 18 railway stations within the Vadodara division, aiming to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency. This upgrade represents a pivotal step towards modernising India’s rail infrastructure, addressing the needs of a rapidly growing population reliant on rail transport.

Among the key projects, the Pratapnagar station is set to undergo a comprehensive transformation with an investment of approximately ₹43 crore. This redevelopment will feature a new station building designed to accommodate increasing passenger numbers, along with improved parking facilities and a dedicated auto parking area. The design incorporates a spacious porch at the main entrance, complemented by well-planned entry and exit gates, and a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge (FOB) to facilitate smoother passenger flow. Notably, accessibility for the physically disabled has been prioritised, with tactile paving to aid navigation throughout the station. By segregating arriving and departing passengers and vehicles, the redesign aims to minimise congestion, ensuring a more comfortable travel experience.

Similarly, the Dakor station is being upgraded to meet Amrit station standards with an estimated budget of ₹6 crore. This enhancement will include modern waiting areas, improved toilets, and drinking water kiosks, fostering a more pleasant environment for passengers. Infrastructure improvements, such as covered sheds, additional FOBs, and platform upgrades, are designed to efficiently manage the flow of trains and passengers. At Godhra station, a second entry point is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹6.18 crore. This new entry aims to alleviate congestion in the city, making the station more accessible and reducing the stress of navigating through crowded urban areas.

The overarching goal of these upgrades is not only to enhance passenger amenities but also to contribute to sustainable urban development. The incorporation of green spaces around stations and the provision of electric vehicle (EV) charging points reflect a commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. This dual focus on modernisation and sustainability resonates with the public, many of whom express excitement about the improvements. Local residents and commuters have welcomed these developments, recognising the positive impact on daily travel and overall quality of life. As India strides towards a more sustainable and efficient transport system, the enhancements in Vadodara’s railway stations exemplify a broader commitment to meeting the needs of the populace while ensuring environmental responsibility.
