Ahmedabad Metro Extends Navratri Services to 2am on Three Routes

Ahmedabad Metro will run extended late-night services until 2am from 14 October to 19 October to help Navratri revellers and other passengers return home after the night’s celebrations, according to details reported by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. The additional services will operate beyond the regular closing time of 11pm.

The extended Ahmedabad Metro service will cover the Vastral Gam–Thaltej Gam corridor, the APMC–Koteshwar Road route and the APMC–Sector 1 route. Trains on the first two routes will run at 30-minute intervals, while services on the APMC–Sector 1 route will operate every 60 minutes during the extended schedule.

The current Ahmedabad Metro timetable operates from 6.20am to 11pm. The temporary extension has been introduced for the six-day Navratri period, when large numbers of residents travel late at night after attending garba events. The decision has been taken by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, or GMRC, to provide an additional public transport option during the festival.

Passengers using the extended services will be able to purchase a special paper ticket priced at Rs 50. The ticket will be available at Metro stations during the extended operating hours and can be used by one passenger only, the report said.

The arrangement gives late-night passengers a scheduled alternative to private vehicles and other modes of transport during a period when travel demand rises after evening events. By keeping selected corridors operational until 2am, the temporary timetable is intended to support return journeys from garba venues and reduce dependence on road-based travel for those using the Metro network.

The service plan also introduces different frequencies across the three routes. The Vastral Gam–Thaltej Gam and APMC–Koteshwar Road corridors will have the most frequent extended services, with trains every 30 minutes. The APMC–Sector 1 corridor will have a train every hour. Passengers will therefore need to check the route-specific timetable before beginning their return journey.

The extended services are scheduled to remain in operation through 19 October. GMRC’s temporary Navratri arrangement will end after the announced festival period unless the corporation issues a further update.
