Mysuru Dasara Preparations Get Traffic and Safety Push

Mysuru Dasara preparations received a city-wide review on Wednesday as district in-charge minister Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah inspected arrangements for visitor facilities, traffic movement, sanitation and public safety ahead of the festival. Officials were directed to complete road works quickly, provide alternative routes and ensure essential services at major event locations.

The minister travelled through the city with elected representatives and officials in a KSRTC Airavat Club Class bus and reviewed preparations at several locations. At the food mela venue at Maharaja College grounds, he instructed authorities to provide adequate shade and clean drinking water for the public. He also directed officials to segregate wet and dry waste at the source and manage it scientifically.

The inspection covered road development works on the Ring Road, including locations near Royal Inn Junction on KRS Road, Kempegowda Junction on the Bengaluru route, Pushpashrama Road and the area near Hunsur Road at Devalapura Circle. The minister asked officials to complete the works quickly so that they do not disrupt movement during Dasara.

Mysuru is expected to receive visitors and members of the public from across India and abroad during the festival. Siddaramaiah directed the authorities to identify alternative routes and make arrangements for smooth traffic flow. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy and police officials briefed him on the alternative route arrangement near the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway.

The minister also inspected preparations for the Yuva Dasara programme at Uthanahalli grounds. Officials were asked to ensure that young people and other visitors attending the event face no inconvenience. Safety arrangements were given particular emphasis during the review.

At Chamundi Hill, Siddaramaiah examined preparations for the large number of devotees expected to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple. He directed officials to ensure clean drinking water, suitable shaded areas and adequate parking arrangements to support vehicle movement and visitor access.

The review also covered the Dasara exhibition grounds and the temporary main stage being constructed in the Ambavilas Palace courtyard. The minister inspected the ongoing arrangements for lighting, seating and toilets, along with other preparatory works at the venue.

The inspection placed several routine but essential city-management functions at the centre of the festival preparations. Traffic diversions, road works, parking, sanitation, drinking water and crowd safety will need to operate together across locations that include event grounds, heritage venues, Chamundi Hill and key approach roads.

Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah inaugurated a newly constructed office for the district in-charge minister on the premises of the Zilla Panchayat office. He said the office had been opened to accelerate the district’s overall development, respond quickly to public grievances and manage administrative work related to the district more effectively. He urged residents to make use of the facility.

The inspection was attended by legislators Darshan Dhruvanarayana and K. Harish Gowda, Legislative Council members Dr D. Thimmaiah and K. Shivakumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M. K. Savitha, KPCC spokesperson M. Lakshman and Congress Rural District Committee president Beerihundi Basavanna, among others.
