Kerala Braces for Adverse Weather IMD Yellow Alert

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, signalling heightened weather conditions in these regions. The alert comes in response to the ongoing cyclonic activity over the southwest Arabian Sea, which is expected to bring about significant weather changes. Residents and authorities in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as the situation develops.

The IMD’s warning includes the forecast of squally winds, with speeds anticipated to reach between 45 and 55 kmph, and gusts potentially climbing to 65 kmph. This adverse weather is likely to impact several parts of the west-central and western regions of the southwest Arabian Sea. Fishermen are strongly advised to avoid venturing into these sea areas to ensure their safety. Additionally, local ports across Kerala have been instructed to hoist cautionary warnings in preparation for the rough conditions expected.

In tandem with the IMD’s alert, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued various advisories, including ocean current watch, high wave watch, and swell surge watch for several districts including Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kollam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, and Thrissur. The ongoing southwest monsoon has intensified weather patterns across Kerala, further complicating maritime and coastal conditions. Authorities and residents are urged to stay informed and adhere to safety measures to mitigate potential risks associated with these severe weather conditions.
