Tamil Nadu heavy rain is likely in parts of 23 districts on October 7 and 22 districts on October 8, with thunderstorms and strong winds forecast in several locations, according to a report from the Chennai weather centre carried by Dinamalar.
The forecast identifies the hill areas of Coimbatore, coastal parts of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, and parts of the Nilgiris and Kanniyakumari among the areas that could receive heavy rain at isolated locations, accompanied by thunder and strong winds.
Moderate rain is likely in isolated places across Theni, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur, the report said.
For October 8, the weather centre has forecast heavy rain with thunder and strong winds at isolated locations in the hill areas of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris. Moderate rain is expected in parts of Theni, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur.
The forecast also lists the possibility of moderate rain with thunder and strong winds in parts of Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur.
In another forecast period cited in the report, heavy rain with thunder and strong winds could occur at isolated locations in the hill areas of Coimbatore and in the Nilgiris and Theni. Moderate rain with thunder and strong winds is also likely in parts of Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.
The spread of the forecast covers western hill regions, the southern districts and large parts of the Cauvery delta and central Tamil Nadu. For cities and towns in the affected districts, periods of intense rain can affect road movement, low-lying stretches and local drainage systems, while strong winds and lightning may disrupt outdoor activity and travel.
