Repair Delays on Ganeshkhind Road Amid President’s Visit

With President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Pune scheduled for September 3, Ganeshkhind Road remains in a dire state, presenting significant challenges for repairs. The road is currently plagued by numerous potholes, exacerbated by ongoing construction work for a multi-storey flyover and the Metro railway route.

In a bid to address the issue, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has formally requested the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to expedite the road repairs. Despite these efforts, PMRDA has faced delays, prompting PMC to take interim measures by filling potholes themselves. The situation is compounded by the adverse effects of recent heavy rains, which have deteriorated many city roads and caused frequent traffic congestion.

The challenges on Ganeshkhind Road are further intensified by the ongoing Metro construction work, which has led to persistent traffic snarls. Despite multiple joint meetings involving PMC, PMRDA, and Traffic Police, there has been little progress in alleviating the traffic issues. The President’s imminent visit adds urgency to the repair efforts, highlighting the broader issue of coordination between various authorities involved in urban infrastructure projects. The current state of Ganeshkhind Road underscores the need for more effective management and quicker response to infrastructural challenges, particularly in the context of high-profile visits and ongoing public works.
