Hyderabad’s drinking water supply will be disrupted for 36 hours from 6 am on October 5 to 6 pm on October 6 as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board carries out maintenance on a major Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II pipeline.
The works will be undertaken on the 2,375-mm diameter mild steel pumping main between Nasarlapally and Godakondla. HMWS&SB will replace damaged MS air tees and valves on the main and rectify a leakage in the scour pipeline, according to the board.
During the maintenance period, some areas may face a complete or partial disruption in water supply, while other localities may receive water at low pressure. The affected network covers a wide spread of southern, eastern, northern and central Hyderabad, including residential neighbourhoods, industrial areas and institutional zones.
The listed areas include Adibatla, Kammaguda, Gurramguda, BN Reddy Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Autonagar, Alkapuri, Beerappagadda, Habsiguda, Ramanthapur, Venkat Reddy Nagar, Uppal, Nacharam, HMT Nagar, Tarnaka and Boudhanagar. Lalapet and Bholakpur are expected to face partial disruption.
Other affected localities include Hasmathpet, Prakashnagar, Mekalamandi, Padmaraonagar, Begumpet, South Central Railway, MES, Secunderabad Cantonment, Lalaguda, Addagutta, Patigadda, Nallagutta, Gauthamnagar, Ferozguda, Bansilalpet, Ramgopalpet, Sitaphalmandi and Mettuguda.
Meerpet, Badangpet, ARCI, Balapur, Maisaram, Barkas, NPA, Shamshabad, Madhuban and Prashasannagar are also included in the affected areas. Prashasannagar is listed for partial disruption.
The planned shutdown is linked to maintenance of a critical bulk-water transmission asset rather than a routine local distribution line. The pumping main forms part of the Krishna water supply system serving Hyderabad, making the work relevant to multiple distribution zones connected to the project pipeline.
Residents in the affected areas may therefore experience interruptions at different times and at varying levels of severity. HMWS&SB has indicated that supply may be completely disrupted in some locations, partially affected in others or delivered at low pressure during the maintenance window.
The work is scheduled to begin at 6 am on October 5 and is expected to continue until 6 pm on October 6. The board’s stated activities are the replacement of damaged air tees and valves and the repair of the leaking scour pipeline.
