Mysuru’s Dasara flower show will centre on a democracy theme this year, with the Department of Horticulture preparing a floral replica of the Vidhana Soudha, Constitution-themed displays and 75,000 flower pots at Kuppanna Park near Harding Circle. The exhibition will open on October 11, the day Dasara festivities begin, and remain open until October 21.
The main installation will be created inside the park’s glasshouse. The floral replica of the Vidhana Soudha will measure 42 feet in width and 15 feet in height. Replicas of the Constitution and the Ashoka Chakra will also be made using flowers, according to information provided by Horticulture Department Deputy Director Roopashree to Prajavani.
The department has finalised the theme following instructions from the district minister in charge to present the beauty and importance of democracy through the flower show. Floral artworks depicting the five guarantees of the state government—Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, Yuva Nidhi and Anna Bhagya—will also be displayed. Other planned installations include Dasara elephants and Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity associated with Mysuru Dasara.
The exhibition will include 25 varieties of flowers. Special varieties are being brought from places including Ooty and Pune, while flower pots are being prepared at department nurseries. Assembly work inside the glasshouse is scheduled to begin on October 2, followed by arrangements in the wider park from October 5. A green canopy is also planned in front of the glasshouse.
For the first time, the department is developing a kitchen garden section as part of the exhibition. It will demonstrate how households can grow leafy vegetables and nutritious produce in backyards or on terraces. Visitors will also be introduced to gardening and the benefits of cultivation, along with information about government support available for such activities.
Adult entry has been fixed at ₹60, while children above six years will be charged ₹30. Children arriving in school uniform will be allowed free entry between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The department expects thousands of visitors each day and is preparing arrangements accordingly.
The exhibition has been tendered at a cost of ₹48 lakh. Its scale places additional importance on access and visitor movement around Kuppanna Park, where repair work on a large drain, a footpath and the road connecting to Nazarbad is still under way. If these works are not completed by the opening of the flower show, visitors could face difficulties and traffic congestion may increase in the area, according to the report.
The horticulture department has said the exhibition will combine floral displays with public information on gardening, household cultivation and available government facilities. The final arrangements are being made ahead of the October 11 opening.
