The India Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of India, with isolated heavy showers likely in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and the Northeast during the next forecast period.
The forecast covers Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, as well as parts of Maharashtra and southern India. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several regions, conditions that can affect road travel, local transport and outdoor activity.
Delhi-NCR has not been specifically included in a significant rainfall or thunderstorm warning in the forecast provided. Isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over East Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan, while Uttarakhand is likely to receive showers through October 2, with another spell possible on October 5 and 6.
In eastern and central India, East Madhya Pradesh is likely to see isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The wet spell there is expected to continue through October 3. Jharkhand may receive showers through October 2, while Bihar is expected to see further rainfall between October 3 and 6, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Winds in Bihar could reach 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph.
Odisha is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds through October 1. Winds are expected to reach 30-40 kmph, with gusts of up to 50 kmph. Chhattisgarh may see rainfall activity from October 2, while rainfall is also expected over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim through October 6.
The Northeast is expected to remain among the most active regions. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, while isolated heavy rainfall is possible over these states as well as Assam and Meghalaya. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely over Assam, Meghalaya and parts of the Northeast.
Southern India is expected to see the most significant combination of rain and strong winds. Kerala and Mahe may receive isolated rainfall initially, followed by fairly widespread to widespread showers from October 1 to 6. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely through October 3. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may receive isolated to scattered rainfall, with heavy rain possible through October 1. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, are also forecast.
North Interior Karnataka may receive isolated to scattered rainfall and isolated heavy rain, with winds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph. South Interior Karnataka is likely to see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and gusty winds. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience showers and strong surface winds through October 3, while Rayalaseema is expected to see thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The IMD has also forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Coastal Karnataka on October 1 and 2, while Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas may receive rainfall between October 2 and 6. The latest forecast indicates that rainfall activity will continue across parts of central, eastern, northeastern, western and southern India over the coming days.
