Haryana Police chief Ajay Singhal inaugurated the newly constructed Sector 17/18 police station building in Gurugram on Monday, as the state announced expanded police recruitment and infrastructure spending to strengthen law enforcement capacity. The station building was constructed at a cost of ₹4 crore.
Singhal received a guard of honour after arriving in Gurugram and inspected the new premises following the inauguration. Police Commissioner Shibas Kabiraj, senior deputy commissioners of police, assistant commissioners of police and other senior officers were present at the programme, according to Live Hindustan – NCR.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration, the Director General of Police said effective crime control required better coordination between the police and residents. He also directed senior officers and station in-charges to focus on crime prevention and the quick resolution of public complaints during a meeting at the Gurugram commissionerate office.
The visit also included a welfare meeting at the police lines’ community hall, where Singhal interacted with police personnel and their families. He later met families at the Haryana Police Housing Corporation guest house and heard their concerns. The DGP said the welfare of police families was also a departmental priority.
At the parade ground, personnel from the eastern, western, southern and Manesar units, as well as headquarters and women’s law-and-order companies, presented a demonstration focused on responding to difficult situations. Singhal praised the personnel’s preparedness, discipline and speed of response.
The DGP also addressed residents and other members of the public at the traffic police tower. He said public participation and police cooperation were necessary to build a secure society. During the interaction, he said the police would respond firmly to people attempting to create fear among the public and to armed attacks on police personnel.
Singhal said Haryana had introduced a new welfare scheme under which more than ₹50 crore was being spent annually. He added that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had allocated ₹640 crore to the police this year for strengthening infrastructure. According to the DGP, around ₹1,300 crore would be spent on police modernisation over the next two years, with the process already under way.
The recruitment plan outlined during the visit covers several rounds. Singhal said 5,500 appointments had been made last year and another 5,500 recruitments were currently under way. He said recruitment for 4,000 posts would begin in November, followed by recruitment for between 5,000 and 6,000 posts in March. Together, the announced rounds represent a pipeline of about 20,000 positions, including the recruitment already under way and the planned future intakes.
