Pune’s Ganpati visarjan procession continued after crossing 30 hours, with processions still moving through central routes including Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road and Tilak Road, according to a report by Loksatta. The prolonged movement has kept one of the city’s busiest public-event corridors active well into the following day.
The report said several mandals continued towards immersion points with both DJ systems and traditional dhol-tasha troupes forming part of the processions. Devotees and spectators remained present along the routes as the event continued.
At around 4 am, the Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Mandal’s procession moved from Tilak Chowk, followed by the Akhil Mandai Mandal procession. Both mandals used the Tilak Road route, according to the report.
The Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandal had decided, as it did last year, to join the visarjan procession early. Its idol left Tilak Chowk for immersion at around 8.30 pm the previous night. The report did not provide further details about the immersion location or the total number of mandals still awaiting immersion.
Processions approaching from Kelkar and Kumthekar roads used laser shows and DJ systems. A large crowd of young people gathered on the two roads, particularly between 10 pm and midnight, as music-based processions continued. In contrast, mandals arriving through Laxmi Road were reported to have given greater prominence to traditional dhol-tasha groups.
The procession also affected the timing of sound-system use. When the Subhash Mitra Mandal’s Ganpati procession reached Tilak Chowk through Kelkar Road, it was midnight. The Shaniwar Veer Maruti Mandal arrived at the same junction soon afterwards. Police then instructed the organisers to switch off DJ speakers because the midnight limit had been reached.
The continuing procession places central Pune’s road network at the centre of the event, with Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road and Tilak Chowk serving as key movement points. The report did not specify when all processions would conclude or when normal movement would be fully restored on these routes.
