Hyderabad traffic restrictions around Hussain Sagar continued for a second consecutive day on September 26 as police closed roads and diverted vehicles to facilitate Ganesh immersion processions, leaving motorists stranded near Indira Park, Lower Tank Bund and other connecting stretches.
Long queues were reported on roads leading towards the lake, particularly as commuters travelled towards central Hyderabad for work. Several motorists complained that the continued restrictions were causing severe inconvenience, while traffic police personnel stopped vehicles from entering the restricted stretches.
Confrontations between commuters and police were witnessed at Indira Park and Lower Tank Bund, where motorists sought permission to proceed towards their destinations. Police personnel cited the immersion arrangements and security requirements while regulating movement and preventing vehicles from entering the closed roads.
The traffic police issued a fresh advisory on Saturday stating that diversions and restrictions would continue on various routes to support the smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion programme. Motorists were advised to avoid roads around Hussain Sagar and use alternative routes wherever possible.
Traffic congestion also spread to several connecting roads as a large number of commuters travelled towards the central parts of the city. Police personnel were deployed at key junctions to regulate vehicles and enforce the diversions around the restricted areas.
The traffic police appealed to motorists to cooperate with the diversions and plan their journeys in advance. The restrictions are being enforced to ensure the safe and smooth movement of immersion processions, according to the advisory reported by Telangana Today.
