Tesla India has opened its first Chennai Experience Centre at Express Avenue Mall and a Tesla-approved collision centre in Poonamallee, expanding the electric vehicle maker’s retail and after-sales network in Tamil Nadu. The facilities will allow customers to experience Tesla vehicles, take test drives, place orders and receive deliveries locally.
The Experience Centre at Express Avenue Mall is designed to serve customers in Chennai as well as buyers from other parts of Tamil Nadu. Its opening gives prospective customers a physical location to interact with Tesla vehicles before making a purchase, while also providing a local channel for orders and deliveries.
Tesla currently sells two versions of the Model Y in India. The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is priced from Rs 50.89 lakh, while the Model Y L All-Wheel Drive is priced from Rs 61.99 lakh. The company’s Chennai retail expansion therefore combines vehicle sales with a local customer-facing presence for models positioned in the premium electric vehicle market.
The second facility, located in Poonamallee, will provide collision repair and service support. According to Tesla India, the approved centre will have access to genuine Tesla parts, trained technicians, software-aware diagnostics and Tesla-approved repair processes. These services are intended to support vehicles after accidents and other repair requirements, reducing the need for customers to depend solely on facilities outside the city.
The Poonamallee centre also highlights the operational requirements of Tesla’s vehicles. Alongside conventional collision repair, the facility is expected to use diagnostics and repair processes that account for the software systems integrated into the cars. Tesla said the centre would provide access to trained personnel and genuine parts as part of its approved service arrangement.
Both Model Y variants receive new features through over-the-air software updates, according to the company. The vehicles also offer access to Tesla’s AI assistant Grok, which is available in several Indian languages. The software capability means that vehicle functionality can be updated remotely after delivery, rather than relying only on physical changes at a service facility.
For Chennai’s electric vehicle market, the two openings bring sales, delivery and repair functions into the same local network. Customers can visit the Experience Centre to assess the vehicles and place orders, while the Poonamallee facility provides an approved location for collision-related support. The company has not disclosed in the supplied announcement any additional Chennai locations, delivery targets or expansion timelines beyond these facilities.
