Haiderpur Housing Plan Advances as Delhi Clears New Civic Facilities

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a phased housing plan for residents of jhuggi clusters in Haiderpur, along with a new school, health centre and community centre for the area. The announcements were made during a mega health check-up camp inaugurated on Thursday in Haiderpur, which falls within her Shalimar Bagh constituency.

The health camp was organised under the Delhi government’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. During the programme, Gupta interacted with residents living in the area’s informal settlements and said that no jhuggi would be demolished there, according to a report by Millennium Post.

The Chief Minister said the government was working to provide better housing to residents who had been living in difficult conditions for years. In the first phase, the tender process for constructing housing for residents of the jhuggis in AU Block and AO Block has begun. The government will identify suitable sites around these areas and construct housing close to the residents’ present locations, she said.

A second phase will cover jhuggis around the Ayurvedic Hospital area. Gupta said officials were looking for suitable land nearby so that residents could be provided better housing without being moved far from their existing neighbourhood. The report did not specify the number of households covered, the proposed housing capacity, the project cost or the timeline for completion.

The housing announcement is being combined with plans to expand public services in Haiderpur. Gupta said the area had long needed a large school offering education up to Class 12. Around 5,000 square yards of land has been made available for construction of the new school, according to the report.

The Delhi government has also issued a tender for construction of a new community centre in the area. The facility is intended to add civic infrastructure in a locality where residents are being considered for improved housing and access to public services.

Gupta further announced the development of a new Ayushman Arogya Mandir health centre. She also said a Nirog Dham would be developed in the area, with efforts to provide healthcare through both Ayurvedic and allopathic systems. The report did not provide details of the proposed facilities’ staffing, service capacity or construction schedule.

The next formal steps identified in the announcement are the ongoing tender process for housing in AU and AO Blocks, identification of land for the second phase near the Ayurvedic Hospital area, and the implementation of tenders for the school and community centre. Further details on project designs, eligibility, land parcels and completion timelines were not stated.
