Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure that the proposed airports at Warangal and Adilabad incorporate the state’s cultural and architectural heritage, while also calling for coordinated planning of roads, utilities and water infrastructure around the sites.
Reddy issued the directions during a review meeting on the proposed construction of the two airports and the new Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. He asked officials to study the architectural and sculptural features of the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Ramappa Temple and Pillalamarri Temple, and use elements reflecting Telangana’s history and culture in the new facilities.
The review also covered logistical challenges at the airport locations. Officials briefed the chief minister on the proposed shifting of power lines, diversion of streams and roads, relocation of BSNL lines, and adjustments to drinking water supply pipelines. The works involve multiple departments and agencies whose activities will need to be coordinated during construction.
Reddy cautioned that complications could arise if departments carried out work separately within their respective jurisdictions. He directed the energy, roads and buildings, drinking water supply and irrigation departments to meet BSNL officials and coordinate the works so that construction activities proceed concurrently without interruption.
The meeting also examined the diversion of water bodies and the shifting of tanks. Officials were asked to plan for the reconstruction of tanks within or near the airport premises where required to facilitate the diversion works. The directions indicate that water management and utility relocation are being considered alongside the airport construction rather than as separate post-construction tasks.
Road access was another focus of the review. Reddy directed officials to prepare roads along the airport compound walls and connect them with nearby district, state and national highways. He also called for a wider road network linking the airports to major highways and asked that the planning account for both present and future requirements.
The chief minister separately reviewed design proposals for the airports and Telangana Bhavan in Delhi and suggested modifications to highlight Telangana’s cultural identity and architectural styles. The proposed airport designs are therefore being considered not only as transport facilities but also as public buildings representing the state.
The directions come as the proposed airport projects move through site-level planning involving roads, power, telecommunications, drinking water systems, irrigation assets and water bodies. Their implementation will depend on the departments and agencies completing interconnected works in coordination with one another. The next steps are the preparation of comprehensive plans, interdepartmental consultations and design modifications for the facilities.
