Delhi Police have arrested one of three men accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl near Kalkaji temple after allegedly posing as police officers, with the suspect injured in a police encounter in southeast Delhi, according to the police account reported by Live Hindustan – NCR.
The incident was reported from Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji temple on Monday night. Police said the PCR received information about the alleged assault at around 8:45 pm, after which officers from Amar Colony police station reached the park and found the girl with her male friend.
According to the girl’s statement as reported by the police, she had visited Kalkaji temple with her friend before the two entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate 7. The three men allegedly identified themselves as policemen, separated her from her friend and took her to an isolated location. The report says one of the accused, identified as Asif, allegedly displayed a weapon and a knife before sexually assaulting the minor. His two associates are also accused of assaulting her. The men allegedly threatened both the girl and her friend after the incident.
Police said a South-East district Special Staff team tried to stop Asif near the District Magistrate’s Office Road in Amar Colony early on Tuesday. According to the police claim, Asif fired three rounds at the team after being surrounded. One bullet struck Head Constable Rajesh’s bulletproof jacket. Police said an officer then fired two rounds in response, one of which hit Asif in the right leg.
Asif was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre for treatment. Police said they recovered an illegal pistol and a motorcycle from him. The other two accused remain untraced, and investigators are attempting to establish their identities and whereabouts.
The girl underwent a medical examination at AIIMS. A crime team and the Forensic Science Laboratory examined the site and collected evidence, according to the report. An FIR has been registered at Amar Colony police station under Sections 70(2), 61(2), 115(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 6 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas. Police are also collecting data on mobile numbers active in the area at the time of the alleged assault. The investigation remains focused on locating the two other accused and examining the evidence collected from the scene.
