Mumbai Local Trains Get Major Overnight Boost for Anant Chaturdashi

Mumbai local trains will run extended overnight services during Anant Chaturdashi, with Central Railway scheduling special services on the CSMT–Kalyan and CSMT–Panvel routes and Western Railway adding trains between Churchgate and Virar to manage immersion-related crowds.

Central Railway will operate 18 special suburban services on the main line in both directions on the nights of September 23-24, September 24-25 and September 25-26, 2026. These services will connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kalyan, with additional services operating between CSMT and Thane.

On the down main line, trains will leave CSMT at 1.40am and reach Kalyan at 3.10am; depart at 2.30am and reach Thane at 3.30am; and leave at 3.25am to arrive at Kalyan at 4.55am. On the up line, a train will depart Kalyan at 12.05am and reach CSMT at 1.30am. Two further services will leave Thane at 1am and 2am, reaching CSMT at 2am and 3am respectively.

Central Railway will also run four special services on the Harbour line during the night of September 25-26, the main immersion night. On the down line, trains will leave CSMT for Panvel at 1.30am and 2.45am, reaching Panvel at 2.50am and 4.05am. In the opposite direction, trains will leave Panvel at 1am and 1.45am, reaching CSMT at 2.20am and 3.05am.

Western Railway will operate 12 additional slow local trains between Churchgate and Virar during the midnight period of September 25-26, with six services in each direction. Down services will leave Churchgate at 1.15am, 1.45am, 2.15am, 2.55am, 3.15am and 3.45am, reaching Virar between 2.55am and 5.25am. Up services will leave Virar at 12.15am, 12.30am, 1.10am, 1.30am, 2am and 3am, reaching Churchgate between 1.55am and 4.40am.

Western Railway will also run 37 12-car up fast local services stopping at all stations between Mumbai Central and Churchgate from 5pm to 8.30pm on September 25. To manage passenger movement at Charni Road, 84 up slow services will not halt at platform 2 of the station between 6pm and 11.30pm that day.

The special services are intended to provide late-night connectivity during the large-scale movement of residents and visitors for Ganpati immersion. Commuters will need to check the relevant route, direction and stopping arrangements before travelling, particularly around Charni Road and during the late-night operating windows.
