Thane Police will deploy around 4,500 personnel across the commissionerate area for Ganpati visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, with additional teams assigned to immersion routes, ghats and crowded locations in Thane, Kalyan-Badlapur and Bhiwandi. The security plan includes women police units, plain-clothes teams and officers from the crime branch.
The deployment is intended to manage immersion processions and crowd movement, while preventing theft, harassment and other incidents during the festival. Plain-clothes police teams will patrol immersion ghats, procession routes and busy public areas, where large numbers of devotees are expected to gather.
According to the report, 1,076 public and 165,448 household Ganesh idols were installed within the Thane Police Commissionerate’s jurisdiction this year. Of these, 796 public idols and 40,267 household idols are scheduled for immersion on Anant Chaturdashi.
The police have identified 193 immersion centres across the commissionerate area. These include Kharegaon Retibunder in Kalwa, Masunda Lake, Upvan, the Kolshet creek, River Naka, Varaldevi Ghat, Kalher creek, Durgadi Ganesh Ghat, Mothagaon Retibunder and ghats along the Ulhas River.
In addition to the immersion centres, 66 idol donation centres have been established. These facilities are part of the arrangements for managing the large volume of idols and devotees expected during the final major immersion day of the festival.
Women police personnel will patrol crowded areas as part of the security measures aimed at preventing misbehaviour directed at women. The police have also assigned crime branch officers and personnel to different locations to monitor crowds and identify suspicious activity.
The commissionerate’s planning covers the movement of processions as well as activity at immersion sites. Police authorities said the arrangements were designed to ensure that the processions proceed peacefully and that devotees face no security threat during the immersion operations.
