Marine police in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada region have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next three to four days as a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining regions.
Odalarevu marine police inspector M.V.S.N. Murthy said the weather system was expected to move towards the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast and could intensify, resulting in rough sea conditions. The warning is aimed particularly at fishermen operating mechanised boats.
Fishermen who are already at sea have been advised to return to a safe harbour or the coast at the earliest. They have also been told to resume fishing only after receiving official weather updates confirming that conditions have returned to normal.
“Your lives and the safety of your families are more important than fishing. Heed the weather warning, do not venture into the sea and stay safe,” Murthy said.
The advisory places marine policing and weather communication at the centre of coastal safety during a period of heightened risk. For fishing communities, a temporary halt can affect daily income, while ignoring the warning can expose crews and vessels to dangerous sea conditions.
The low-pressure area is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea and nearby regions before moving towards the coast. The marine police have not announced any further operational restrictions, but fishermen have been asked to rely on official weather updates before returning to sea.
The immediate next step is for boats currently at sea to reach a safe harbour or the coast, while other fishermen are expected to remain ashore until authorities confirm that sea conditions have stabilised.
