Delhi BJP workers staged a protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party office on Sunday, demanding action against AAP’s Trilokpuri municipal councillor Vijay Kumar over the suicide of an MCD sanitation worker. The protesters alleged that the worker, identified as Deepak, faced financial difficulties and harassment linked to the councillor. The protest was led by BJP Lok Sabha MP Yogender Chandoliya and state vice-president Sunil Yadav, with the participation of party workers from the Mayur Vihar district and members of the Scheduled Caste Morcha, Yuva Morcha, Kisan Morcha and Purvanchal Morcha, according to a Delhi BJP statement.
The BJP demanded that AAP expel Kumar from the party and called for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Deepak’s death. The party also sought action against those responsible and assistance for the sanitation worker’s family. Deepak’s wife and minor daughter were present with BJP leaders during the protest, the report said.
Police detained four protesters — Chandoliya, MLAs Ravi Kant Ujjainwal and Ravinder Negi, and councillor Priyanka Gautam — at Tilak Marg police station. They were later released. Chandoliya questioned the silence of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Kuldeep Kumar over the allegations against Vijay Kumar.
