Three workers involved in installing CCTV cameras under Delhi’s Safe City project were killed and three others injured when a truck hit a stationary crane and an auto-rickshaw in Sarita Vihar early on Sunday, according to police cited by Jagran.
The crash took place on Road Number 3 in the Sarita Vihar police station area. The truck, which was travelling from Noida towards Delhi, first collided with the parked crane and then struck the auto-rickshaw carrying the CCTV installation workers.
The workers were engaged in installing cameras at the time of the collision. The three people who died were identified as 23-year-old Umesh and 35-year-old Praveen, both residents of Sangam Vihar, and Suraj, the company’s human resources manager.
Three other workers were injured in the crash. They were identified as 20-year-old Aakash and 26-year-old Anoop, residents of Sangam Vihar, and 40-year-old Khem Singh, a resident of Rohini. Another Sangam Vihar resident, Sudhir, escaped unharmed, the report said.
The truck involved in the accident was registered as HR 37 AJ 7110. Its driver fled the scene after the collision, according to the police account cited in the report. Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the crash and the driver’s whereabouts.
The incident occurred while workers were carrying out public surveillance infrastructure work on an urban road. The Safe City project’s CCTV installation activity meant that the workers, crane and auto-rickshaw were positioned on or near the roadway during the early-morning operation.
The deaths bring a road-safety dimension to the installation of security infrastructure, as work crews and equipment operate alongside regular traffic. The supplied report does not provide details about traffic-control arrangements at the site, whether warning signs or barricades were deployed, or the speed at which the truck was travelling.
Police have not publicly detailed the next steps in the investigation beyond confirming that the driver left the location and that the case is being examined. The investigation will establish how the truck reached the parked work equipment and auto-rickshaw, and determine responsibility for the collision.
