Unscheduled power cuts lasting up to two hours have been reported across several Hyderabad areas, including the Financial District, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Kondapur, Manikonda, the Old City and Attapur, with residents saying they received no prior information about the interruptions.
The outages are also being reported in Hyderabad’s Central zone, covering Kalyan Nagar, SR Nagar, Madhura Nagar, Yousufguda, Moti Nagar and Erragadda. Residents said the disruptions had become a regular problem in September, affecting work-from-home arrangements, household routines and essential activities.
The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) attributed the interruptions to tree-pruning work being carried out in colonies along routes planned for Ganesh idol immersion processions. Officials said the work was causing short-duration disruptions while workers pruned branches that could interfere with electricity infrastructure.
Residents, however, said the outages were not confined to the colonies connected to designated procession routes. The disagreement has left consumers seeking clearer information about the location, cause and expected duration of each interruption.
“It is monsoon season but feels like summer. Adding to this discomfort, there are regular power cuts. Generally, power goes off during the rains. But now even without rain, there are regular power disruptions,” Adil Khan, a resident of Falaknuma, said.
Several consumers have also posted complaints on social media and tagged TGSPDCL and Telangana government accounts. One user, @TheRealSoms, said a power cut in Sri Ram Nagar Colony, Kondapur, had continued for more than an hour over the weekend. The user said a complaint had been registered but no action had been taken 40 minutes later.
Another user, @minhazmmz786, reported an outage in Laxman Nagar, Shaikpet, from 10.30 am. According to the post, power briefly returned twice before failing again, while residents had not received an update on the interruption.
The reported disruptions are affecting areas with different urban functions, from the office districts of Gachibowli and the Financial District to dense residential neighbourhoods in the Central zone and the Old City. For households dependent on electricity for remote work, water pumping, cooling, cooking and digital services, the absence of advance information makes even short outages harder to manage.
TGSPDCL officials said the interruptions linked to pruning would be for a short duration. Residents are continuing to seek restoration updates and clearer communication on whether outages outside the procession routes are connected to the same work or have separate causes.
