The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has arranged an advanced raft, mobile toilets for women, nirmalya collection urns and additional crowd-management support at Motagaon Ganesh Ghat in west Dombivli ahead of idol immersions, according to an inspection by municipal commissioner Abhinav Goyal on September 19.
The facilities have been put in place to reduce inconvenience for devotees visiting the creekside ghat and to improve arrangements for safety, cleanliness and access. Police personnel and volunteers from non-governmental organisations will assist with managing crowds at the site.
Goyal inspected the immersion arrangements along with local corporator Dipesh Mhatre. The inspection covered the facilities created for idol immersion, sanitation arrangements, safety measures and other services intended for citizens. Municipal officials present during the visit included city engineer Anita Pardeshi, additional commissioner Yogesh Godse, assistant commissioner Abhiman Pawar and assistant engineer Ajay Mahajan.
The floating raft is intended to support the immersion process in the creek, while the mobile toilets address a basic public facility requirement at a location expected to receive large numbers of visitors. The civic body has also provided nirmalya urns for the collection of flowers and other ritual material, separating it from general waste generated during the event.
Motagaon Ganesh Ghat has attracted increasing numbers of devotees from Dombivli and surrounding areas in recent years because it offers a relatively spacious site and immersion facilities, the report said. The higher footfall makes the management of movement, sanitation and waste collection an important part of the municipal preparation.
The arrangements have been made through the KDMC administration and with the involvement of local representative Dipesh Mhatre. Police personnel and NGO volunteers are expected to support the civic authorities in managing the crowd, while the municipal teams are responsible for the listed sanitation, safety and citizen-facility arrangements at the ghat.
