A four-storey residential building tilted dangerously in NTR Nagar, Gopanpally, in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area on Friday, prompting authorities to evacuate its occupants and residents of nearby structures before ordering its demolition.
The building, constructed on a plot measuring around 50 square yards, developed a sudden tilt to one side, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle. The incident triggered concern in the locality and led emergency and civic teams to reach the site for an assessment.
Officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA), the Disaster Response Force and the local police were involved in the response. The teams examined the building and surrounding area after receiving information about the structural movement.
As a precautionary measure, residents of the affected building and people living in neighbouring structures were evacuated. Authorities said the surrounding area would be cordoned off before demolition work begins, with the stated aim of preventing harm to residents, passers-by and response personnel.
The incident has also brought renewed attention to construction safety concerns in Gopanpally and the wider Gachibowli area. Residents have urged authorities to take immediate action, while officials are inspecting the site and examining the permissions under which the building was constructed.
