Several schools in Delhi received bomb-threat emails on Tuesday, prompting Delhi Police to deploy bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams and additional emergency services for searches at the affected premises.
Air Force Bal Bharati School, Carmel Convent School and The British School were among the institutions that received the emails at around 10.17 am, according to a report by the Times of India. The messages reportedly warned of attacks on courts and police stations across the capital and advised parents not to allow children to use the Delhi Metro until September 29.
The emails were reportedly written in Punjabi and carried the subject line “B00000M|B New Delhi Schools @ 1:11PM.” One message also threatened court premises, stating that bombs would be planted in scooters parked inside court premises.
Following the threats, police teams began security checks and searches at the schools named in the emails. Bomb detection and disposal personnel scanned the premises with specialised equipment to check for possible explosive devices. Sniffer dog units were also deployed as part of the search operation.
Multiple fire tenders and ambulances were kept on standby as a precautionary measure while the searches were conducted. Police personnel were stationed around the schools to manage crowds of concerned parents and maintain security at the locations.
The reported threats extended beyond school premises, with references to police stations, court complexes and the Delhi Metro. These locations are critical parts of the capital’s public infrastructure and daily movement network, making the response involve both school security and wider crowd and traffic management.
The immediate police action included searches of the threatened premises, deployment of emergency response teams and security arrangements for parents and school communities. The report did not state whether any explosive device had been recovered or identify the person or group behind the emails.
The police searches and precautionary deployment were continuing as authorities examined the threat messages and secured the affected locations.
