A refrigerator explosion reportedly triggered a house fire in Belagavi’s Chavat Galli, killing four members of a family and seriously injuring two others, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred late Monday within the jurisdiction of the Market Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Gajanan Dhamone, 65, Roshan Dhamone, 21, Sharada Dhamone, 45, and Bharati Dhamone, 50, police said. Priya Dhamone, 28, and Ganga Dhamone, 25, sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary information provided by police, the fire broke out after a refrigerator reportedly exploded inside the house. The flames then spread rapidly across the premises, trapping the occupants inside.
Police said the victims were unable to escape from the house as the fire intensified. The incident was reported in the Market Police Station area of Belagavi, a city in Karnataka’s northern region.
The exact cause of the refrigerator explosion and the circumstances that led to the rapid spread of the fire have not yet been established. Police are conducting a further investigation into the incident.
The injured family members remain under treatment, while investigators are working to determine how the blaze began and whether any other factors contributed to the deaths.
