A Kargil War veteran was allegedly attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, suffering a serious head injury and a fractured elbow, according to his complaint and police officials. An FIR has been registered against unknown accused at the Sector 65 police station.
Amit Kumar Gupta, a retired Group Captain who was part of the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar team during the 1999 Kargil War, visited the commercial complex with his family for dinner at the Gonzo Restaurant on Thursday night. Police said the dispute was related to parking arrangements at the complex.
According to Gupta’s complaint, he left his family at the restaurant at around 8 pm and went to park the car. He alleged that parking staff directed him between valet parking, basement parking and the multi-level parking area, but later refused to park the vehicle. The reason for the alleged refusal has not been established.
Gupta further alleged that while he was reversing his car, a parking attendant tried to break the vehicle’s front window. He said that after getting out and resisting, the attendant struck him first on the hand and then on the head with an iron rod. Gupta alleged that security guards and other parking staff were present but did not intervene.
The retired officer also claimed that he called the police helpline but that officers did not reach the spot for about half an hour. According to his complaint, a chef from the restaurant intervened during the incident. Gupta was later taken to Medanta Hospital by ambulance, where he underwent surgery. He said that a plate was used to fix the fractured elbow bone.
Gupta has also alleged that the medico-legal case report prepared at the hospital did not accurately record the bleeding from his head or the elbow injury. He claimed that he had not received adequate assistance from the police. These allegations have not been independently established.
Sector 65 Station House Officer Rambir Singh said an FIR had been registered under Sections 115(2), 126(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The officer said additional sections could be added based on the doctors’ opinion. Police described the accused as unknown and said an investigation was underway.
The incident places attention on the safety arrangements and accountability of parking and security staff at large commercial developments, where multiple parking systems and private attendants often operate within the same premises. Police said the accused would be arrested soon as the investigation progresses.
