Tamil Nadu’s power board has procured an additional 2,000 megawatts of electricity among a series of immediate measures aimed at maintaining uninterrupted power supply across the state, according to a statement reported by Dinamalar.
The board said the additional procurement was part of steps taken to ensure a stable electricity supply and prevent shortages. It stated that Tamil Nadu is currently receiving uninterrupted power without any deficit across the state.
The announcement comes as electricity demand and supply conditions require continuous monitoring across the state’s urban and rural distribution networks. The power board said a team of senior officials at its headquarters is monitoring the power grid and distribution situation around the clock.
According to the statement, the officials are issuing necessary directions and taking corrective measures immediately whenever required. The board did not provide details of the procurement cost, the suppliers involved, the duration of the additional purchase or the specific period for which the extra 2,000 MW would be available.
Reliable electricity supply is critical for homes, commercial establishments, public services, water systems and other urban infrastructure. Any gap between demand and available power can affect pumping stations, public facilities, businesses and residential consumers, particularly during periods of elevated consumption.

The board’s round-the-clock monitoring will continue, with officials authorised to issue instructions and undertake further measures based on the state’s power-system and distribution conditions.
