The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several Telangana districts, forecasting thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h at isolated locations on Monday, as the state prepares for Ganesh Chaturthi-related activity.
The warning covers Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy, along with Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.
The Telangana Development Planning Society has forecast light to moderate rainfall across the state on Monday. It has also forecast moderate rainfall on Tuesday in Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Hanumakonda, Warangal and Jangaon, as well as parts of Mancherial, Jagtial, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Suryapet and Mahbubabad.
The forecast comes after several parts of Telangana recorded rainfall on Sunday. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Saloora in Nizamabad received the highest rainfall at 53.8 mm. Navipet recorded 37.8 mm, Manthani in Peddapalli received 34 mm, while Ranjal and Lakmapoor in Nizamabad recorded 27 mm and 24.8 mm respectively.
Hyderabad also received light rain in several locations. Malkajgiri recorded 7.8 mm, Moula Ali received 7.5 mm, Dungigal recorded 6 mm and Saroornagar received 2 mm, according to the society’s rainfall data.
The warning has implications for movement through the city and surrounding districts, particularly where rainfall and gusty winds coincide with outdoor activity, temporary installations and crowded public spaces. The available forecast identifies thunderstorms and wind speeds but does not specify the duration or exact locations of individual storm cells.
The IMD has issued another yellow alert for Tuesday in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts. The next forecast updates will determine how the warning develops across the state.
