The long-pending Naraina-Inderpuri bridge project in west Delhi received a fresh push after MP Bansuri Swaraj and Rajinder Nagar MLA Umang Bajaj inspected the construction site with senior officials from Northern Railway and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The inspection focused on proposed structural improvements, technical aspects and the process required to begin construction. Railway and MCD officials were instructed to address land-transfer and technical-design obstacles on priority, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.
The bridge is planned over a railway line and is expected to provide a direct connection between densely populated residential areas and industrial colonies in Naraina and Inderpuri. Officials and public representatives expressed expectations that the construction work would now move forward more quickly.
The proposed link is intended to connect residents of Inderpuri Colony and Inderpuri Rehabilitation Colony with Naraina Vihar and Ring Road without requiring them to use narrow local lanes or take routes near the railway tracks. It would also improve access between Naraina village, Naraina Vihar, Inderpuri and nearby areas.
The project has a significant safety dimension. The report states that residents, including schoolchildren, currently sometimes cross railway tracks at risk or travel several kilometres around the area because a direct crossing is not available. A bridge would provide a formal connection over the railway line, reducing dependence on unsafe informal routes if and when the project is completed.
The latest inspection does not specify a construction start date, project cost, completion deadline or the precise status of land transfer and design approvals. The next step identified in the report is for Northern Railway and MCD officials to resolve these issues and facilitate the rapid commencement of construction.
