The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has set December 2028 as the target for completing the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road, a 5.135-km project intended to create a faster connection between Dahisar West and Bhayandar West and improve movement between Mumbai and the Mira-Bhayandar region.
Additional Municipal Commissioner for Projects Abhijit Bangar reviewed construction activity at the Bhayandar Interchange, located within the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area. During the inspection, he directed officials to prioritise the remaining land acquisition, coordinate with relevant authorities and work with the Mira-Bhayandar civic body to keep implementation on schedule.
The Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road forms part of the Mumbai Coastal Road North project, which includes seven packages identified as A, B, C, D, E, F and the DBLR. The larger project, including interchanges and link roads, spans around 60 km and is planned to connect Vesave and Bhayandar through the coastal road network.
The link road includes several complex engineering components. These include an elevated road, a road on stilts through mangrove areas, an elevated structure over a creek, an elevated road through saltpan areas, connecting roads, interchanges and flyovers. The main elevated road is approximately 3.83 km long and 45 metres wide, and will form the final section of the Mumbai Coastal Road North.
According to the civic body, construction has so far included 60 piles, five pile caps, four piers, four pier caps and nine segments of the bridge structure. Gabion wall fencing is under way, while foundation work for the elevated structure is continuing through the construction of piles and pile caps. Modern construction equipment has been deployed at the site, and a temporary access bridge is operational to support the works.
The launching girder is scheduled to begin work in the second week of October. Preparations for the equipment and the next stage of construction were reviewed during Bangar’s site visit.
Land acquisition remains one of the implementation tasks identified by the civic administration. Bangar instructed officials to establish a priority sequence for the remaining acquisition work and to coordinate with other authorities. He also directed officials and contractors to follow prescribed safety standard operating procedures, maintain adequate barricading and ensure that construction meets quality requirements.
The project’s December 2028 deadline applies to the DBLR section. Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Infrastructure Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer for Mumbai Coastal Road North Vaibhav Gandhi, engineers and project consultants were present during the inspection.
