Karnataka has opened public feedback on a proposed bus fare revision that could affect services operated by KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC, with commuters and other affected persons asked to submit suggestions or objections by September 21.
The Karnataka Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee issued the public notice after the four state-run transport corporations sought higher fares, citing rising diesel and fuel prices, increased staff salaries and growing operating costs. The consultation gives passengers and other stakeholders an opportunity to respond before any revision is considered.
Suggestions and objections can be submitted to the chairperson of the Karnataka Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee at Sarige Bhavan, KSRTC Central Office, Shanti Nagar, Bengaluru – 560027. Responses can also be sent through the fare revision feedback link published by KSRTC at https://ksrtc.org/fare_revision_feedback/.
The proposed revision comes as the four corporations face significant financial pressure. Their combined liabilities stood at Rs 8,095.5 crore as of May 31, 2026, according to the information cited in the public notice. The corporations have also sought Rs 5,418.6 crore from the Karnataka government as reimbursement for expenses incurred under the Shakti scheme.
The Shakti scheme provides free bus travel for women in Karnataka on eligible state-run services. The transport corporations’ request for reimbursement places the proposed fare revision within a wider financial dispute over how the cost of public transport concessions is shared between the state government and operating agencies.
Bus fares in Karnataka were last increased by 15% in January 2025. In Bengaluru, commuters have also faced higher fares for Namma Metro, BMTC buses and autorickshaws over the past year. Any new revision would therefore be considered against a recent sequence of increases across the city’s major public and shared transport modes.
The current consultation covers all four corporations: KSRTC, which operates services across the state and on intercity routes; BMTC, which serves Bengaluru; North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation; and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. The committee’s public notice does not establish the size or structure of the proposed increase. The next formal step is the submission of public suggestions and objections by September 21.
