Delhi has intensified security and traffic controls ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with more than 2,500 personnel deployed across sensitive areas and CCTV surveillance covering 35 designated VIP routes linking guest hotels with the main venue at Bharat Mandapam.
The security arrangements at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan include personnel from the National Security Guard and the Special Protection Group, according to the report by Live Hindustan – NCR. Leaders from several countries are expected to attend the summit, prompting a heightened security presence across central Delhi and areas connected to the event venue.
The additional deployment includes personnel from Central Armed Police Forces, the Border Security Force and the Sashastra Seema Bal. The forces have been positioned in sensitive locations as part of a wider security plan covering the summit site, accommodation zones and roads used by visiting dignitaries.
The 35 identified VIP routes are being monitored through CCTV cameras. These corridors connect the hotels where summit guests are staying with Bharat Mandapam, allowing authorities to maintain surveillance along the movement routes. The security plan also includes counter-drone systems, air-defence arrangements and cyber-security teams.
The measures will affect traffic operations in and around central Delhi. Several major roads will face traffic restrictions or controlled movement on Saturday, with the changes expected to continue until 9.30 pm. The affected areas include Bharat Mandapam and Pragati Maidan, as well as routes connecting central Delhi with other parts of the city.
Traffic controls are expected on sections of Ring Road, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Tilak Marg, the India Gate and C-Hexagon area, Sardar Patel Marg, Patel Road, NH-48 and Parade Road. Movement may be regulated at different times of the day depending on the movement of summit-related convoys and visiting VIPs.
The restrictions will have an operational impact on commuters travelling through central Delhi and on motorists using routes between the city’s major transport and administrative districts. The traffic arrangements also underline how large diplomatic events temporarily reshape access to key public roads, particularly when their venues are located in dense and highly connected parts of the capital.
Delhi Police has advised residents and visitors to plan journeys in advance and use the Metro wherever possible to avoid delays caused by traffic restrictions and VIP movement. Drivers have been asked to follow designated alternative routes and comply with instructions from traffic personnel deployed along affected roads.
The restrictions and surveillance arrangements will remain linked to the summit schedule and the movement requirements around Bharat Mandapam. Authorities have asked road users to rely on traffic personnel and follow route diversions during the period of controlled movement.
