Five companies have started construction for new industrial units at IMT Sohna in Gurugram, with the projects expected to bring more than Rs 1,000 crore in investment and create new employment opportunities for local residents, according to officials of the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
The companies include one electronics manufacturer, two textile companies and two other industrial firms. Their construction work is expected to be completed within a year, after which the units could generate employment for thousands of young people, the report said. Officials have not provided a specific figure for the number of jobs expected from the five projects.
HSIIDC is developing IMT Sohna across 1,600 acres. A 500-acre section is being developed as an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster, or EMC. About 95% of the industrial plots in the township have already been allotted to companies, according to the corporation.
The firms that have begun construction include Trontech Electronics Private Limited and Malhotra Cables Private Limited, along with three other companies. The companies are developing units on plots ranging from 450 to 1,000 gaj, with construction now under way at the site.
The industrial township is located near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, a connectivity advantage that officials said is making movement of goods and logistics easier for companies. The location is also being positioned as a reason for continued industrial investment in the area.
ALT Battery, a company of Japan’s TDK Corporation, has already established a lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant at IMT Sohna and started production after making a large investment. IGL has completed a ground-breaking ceremony and is preparing to begin construction, according to HSIIDC officials.
The corporation is also developing basic infrastructure for the township at a reported cost of Rs 300 crore. The planned facilities include electricity, water supply, sewerage and roads. HSIIDC is seeking to establish the area as a major electronics hub in north India, although the report does not provide a detailed completion schedule for these infrastructure works.
Sunil Paliwal, estate officer at HSIIDC, said five new companies had started construction for their industrial units and that the projects covered sectors ranging from electronics to textiles. He said 95% of the plots had been allotted, one company had begun production and some other companies were preparing to start construction.
The next milestones are the completion of the five units, the start of construction by companies that have received allotments and the delivery of the township’s planned power, water, sewerage and road infrastructure.
