The Maharashtra government has made ₹170 crore available for 104 jetty and connected infrastructure works across Mumbai and the Konkan region, according to a report by Loksatta. The funding is intended to accelerate the construction and improvement of jetties, approach roads, protective walls, erosion-control bunds, dredging works and passenger facilities.
The reported allocation is divided between two categories. Of the 104 works, 75 projects have been provided ₹126 crore for jetty-related infrastructure, while 29 works involving roads, rail links and backwater development have been allocated ₹44 crore. The projects are spread across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
The 75 jetty works fall under the Maharashtra Maritime Board assistance-grant scheme for floating jetties and related passenger facilities. Loksatta reported that a total of ₹577.53 crore has been approved for these 75 works. By the end of March 2026, ₹133.92 crore had been released for the works, with a further ₹126 crore provided for the 2026-27 financial year.
In the Mumbai region, the projects include a protective wall at Colaba-Gitnagar, works at Khar-Danda and the Belapur passenger jetty, as well as jetty and approach-road projects in Dombivli, Uttan and parts of Thane. The report said the Colaba works have been fully completed, while 40 per cent of the work at Belapur remains pending.
Several works in Palghar district are also included in the funding. These cover the Vasai Fort area, Naigaon, the Vasai roll-on-roll-off jetty, Narangi and the Arnala Fort area. The projects include jetties and passenger facilities intended to improve access to coastal locations and landing points.
The report also identified the heightening of the Naigaon-Benkar jetty as a completed work. Other projects in the wider Konkan region will involve access to ports, road and rail connectivity, backwater development, coastal protection and the removal of silt. The government funding is being routed through the Maharashtra Maritime Board and related infrastructure provisions.
