Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 has moved into preliminary implementation activity, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited inviting tenders for building clearance and utility relocation before the Union government’s final approval of the project’s double-decker design.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has begun preparatory work for Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 despite the final approval for its double-decker design remaining pending, according to a report by Vijay Karnataka. The corporation has invited tenders for the complete or partial removal of buildings and other structures along sections of the proposed network, with the work intended to reduce delays once all approvals are secured.
The tenders cover four packages with a combined estimated cost of Rs 17.57 crore. The proposed work includes clearing identified structures, land acquisition-related activity and the shifting of electricity lines, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board pipelines and other utilities affected by the metro alignment.
BMRCL has planned to complete the clearance work within one year, the report said. The first package covers 10.88 kilometres between the JP Nagar 4th Phase station and the Mysuru Road station, with an estimated cost of Rs 4.74 crore. The second package, valued at Rs 4.54 crore, covers the 6.2-kilometre stretch from Mysuru Road station to Kottigepalya Junction, along with the 1.64-kilometre section covering the Sunkadakatte depot entry and exit and Sunkadakatte station.
The third package has an estimated cost of Rs 4.29 crore and covers 13.171 kilometres between Sumanahalli station and Kempapura station. The fourth package, estimated at Rs 4 crore, covers 12.507 kilometres between Hosahalli station and Kadabagere station, excluding the 1.64-kilometre Sunkadakatte section included in the second package.
The tenders are part of BMRCL’s effort to undertake preparatory activities before the project receives complete approval. The report said the Union government had approved the project in 2024, but final approval linked to the double-decker configuration is still awaited. Starting clearance and relocation work earlier is intended to avoid delays and additional costs after the remaining approval is granted.
Metro Phase 3 is planned as a 44.65-kilometre network with 31 elevated stations across two corridors. The first corridor is proposed to run for 32.15 kilometres from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura. The second corridor will extend for 12.5 kilometres from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road and is planned to have nine stations.
BMRCL has set a target of completing both corridors by 2032. The deadline for submitting bids for the clearance packages is October 10, while the tenders are scheduled to be finalised on October 12, according to the report.
